(MHNSports Reporter Sun Shin) The 'Daejeon Special FX Festival', where stars like Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo, and Jo In-sung have previously enjoyed the joy of winning, has announced its upcoming event.

The Daejeon Metropolitan City and Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency have announced plans to hold the '2024 Daejeon Special FX Festival' from September 20 to September 22 at KAIST and the original city center.
Now in its 6th year, the Daejeon Special FX Festival is the only event in the nation dedicated to the special effects field. It aims to select outstanding works, award artists and actors who contributed to their production, and organize citizen screenings, all to foster the related industry ecosystem.

Daejeon City has been hosting the event as part of its policy to cultivate the city as a hub for special effects, in conjunction with the 'Daejeon Drama Festival' and the 'APAN Star Awards'. Since 2019, the event has expanded in scale, being renamed the 'Daejeon Visual Art Tech Awards' and now the 'Daejeon Special FX Festival' from 2023 onwards.

Revived after 10 years, the awards have seen past winners at the Daejeon Drama Festival including Son Hyun-joo, Song Joong-ki, and Kim Nam-joo, and at the APAN Star Awards including Song Hye-kyo, Lee Joon-gi, Lee Bo-young, Jo In-sung, and Kim Hee-sun, with many top stars gracing the event.

This year’s 'Daejeon Over-The-Top Awards' at the Daejeon Special FX Festival is also expected to honor top stars who have excelled in Korean films and dramas.
The event, taking place from September 20 to 22, will feature the 'Daejeon Over-The-Top Awards' (with 14 categories including Best Actor and Special Effects of the Year), screenings and GV commentaries, an experience exhibition on the video industry, seminars, and various programs.

Especially, the 'Daejeon Over-The-Top Awards' is drawing attention from the film industry, as it will likely nominate the best works, actors, and contributing artists from last year and this year.

Lee Eun-hak, Director of the Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, stated, “Daejeon is the optimal place for special effects, boasting top-notch video infrastructure like Studio Cube, technological prowess of Daedeok Innopolis, and excellent human resources from local universities. We plan to invest 147.6 billion won by 2027 to establish a convergence special effects content cluster and build a special effects industry ecosystem. We will do our best to ensure the Daejeon Special FX Festival grows in scale.”
